Stages of pregnancy

The stages of pregnancy are divided into three trimesters. Within these three trimesters, you will experience hormonal changes, changes to the physical body as the fetus grows inside you and emotional changes within your relationship your partner. There is a great deal of information about the stages of pregnancy and it is a wise idea to buy some books and learn about the proper care of your new baby and the exciting changes happening within your body.

During the first trimester, a woman will experience physical symptoms of pregnancy including increased breast size, nausea and vomiting (commonly known as “morning sickness”), tiredness and frequent urination. Even at these early stages, it is important to have a nutritious diet, get plenty of exercise and live a healthy lifestyle. Your baby will be the size of a cherry at the end of the third month and will have grown from a mass of cells to having a heartbeat and the ability to move its newly-formed limbs.

Hormonal changes within the second trimester will affect your brain activity, making you feel more absent-minded. Your body will begin to show evidence of the baby inside you with a swollen belly and you will have trouble sleeping and notice contractions. At this stage of pregnancy, the baby grows hair on its body and begins to develop its senses. By the end of the second trimester, the baby measures about 10 inches long and begins to practice kicking.

In the later stages of pregnancy, some women will experience a burst of energy that is brought on by innate nesting tendencies. This will inspire both you and your partner to get ready for your new baby and secure a place in your home for your newborn. Your sexual activity in later stages of pregnancy will change due to discomfort or awkward positioning of the body. This can be remedied with some creative sexual activity, love and understanding between you and your partner.
